The Benefits of Handwritten Letters

A year ago, some of the girls on my floor and I decided to swap addresses so we could be pen pals over the summer. It was so fun and meaningful to receive so much love and support through my mailbox.

I'm a big fan of hand written mail on a normal day, but now more than ever, I think bringing back handwritten letters to friends, family, and significant others is incredibly important.

Reasons You Should Send Snail Mail

1. Writing a handwritten letter and sending it through the mail is more thoughtful, romantic, and heartfelt than sending a text. It requires thought and effort which projects sincerity.

2. If you keep writing back and forth to someone, it creates hope. You will find yourself finally having a fun social activity to look forward to that doesn't require leaving your yard. #socialdistancing

3. A letter is a physical memento that someone was thinking of you. You can only hold onto a text for so long, but you can keep a letter forever.

4. If you're looking for a fun and easy craft to keep yourself busy while at home, turn your letter into a masterpiece! There are tons of ways to get creative while making a card. Below is just one example of how you can spice up your letters.

How to Make a Normal Greeting Card Into a New Creation

1. Find a greeting card, a blank piece of construction paper, a glue stick, a fun pen, and old fashion sealing wax (optional)

2. Cut the greeting card in half

3. Cut the construction paper until it's small enough to fit in an envelope. I ripped the edges of mine to add flare.

4. Glue the cover of the greeting card onto the construction paper.

5. Use a colored pen to write your message. I love writing on black paper with white ink, but any color combo can be fun!

5.5. If you like the black background but don't have a light enough pen to write on it, simply glue the blank half of the greeting card you cut off to the other side of the letter and write on it instead.

6. If you are an old soul like me, you can buy sealing wax on Amazon to make your letters really stand out. This is what my set looks like.

7. Throw a stamp on the corner of the envelope, write the addresses, and put it in your mailbox.

Whether you send a letter in the mail or not, I hope you can find time to reach out to your loved ones in one way or another during this difficult time.
